TRINIDAD – Westhaven Center for the Arts (WCA) presents HSU Printmakers featuring original prints by students from the printmaking courses taught by Associate Professor Sarah Whorf at Humboldt State University.
The work showcases diverse woodcuts, wood engravings and etchings. The artists included in the show are Patrick Bailey, Emily Anne Barnett, Charli Beck, Katy Boucher, Erik Federas, Caitlin Fowler, Meheen Hauge, Forest Heims, Jose Morales, Sadie Samuels, Roberta “Berti” Welty and Sarah Whorf.
The artists approach these traditional techniques with contemporary ideas and fresh subject matter. Fowler explains “My work is influenced a lot by emotions, life experiences and how emotions connect people on the most basic level.” Barnett says that her work is about “creating images that reflect childhood imagination and playfulness” and Heims comments on the process of wood engraving, “I enjoy focusing on each of the tiny details and their relationship to one another.”
The exhibition runs March 2 through April 27. An opening reception will be held on Sunday, March 2, from 1 to 4 p.m. The WCA gallery is open Thursday through Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. and is located at 501 South Westhaven Drive, Trinidad. Admission is free. (707) 677-9493, westhavencenter.org
