Trinidad Tidings: Trinidad hears its City Council options

A City of Trinidad Candidates’ Voter Forum moderated by the League of Women Voters will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. in Trinidad Town Hall.

There are four nominees to fill three City Council seats. Candidates are incumbents Cheryl Kelly and Jack Tuttle, both of whom were appointed this year to fill council vacancies, Mike Morgan and Kati Breckenridge.

The candidates will present opening and closing statements and answer written questions from the audience.

Under discussion will be Measure P, which would increase the Tourist Occupancy Tax in the City of Trinidad.

The Voter Forum is an ideal opportunity for every registered voter in the city to ask council candidates about matters consistently before the council such as public safety, water resiliency, short-term rentals, public trails, government to government negotiations with tribes, city budgets and finances, progress on the updated General Plan, public works projects, past and present coronavirus policies, and the myriad issues which face public spirited City Council volunteers.

The general election will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
