Arcata Main Street’s Arcata Bay Oyster Festival resumes as an in-person event for 2022 after a year in the virtual realm and a year of creative adaptations. This years event, while different than the format of a huge Plaza gathering, is a chance to get the festival gears going again and celebrate our amazing local aquaculture, food and beverage producers, culinary aristry, live music and art!

THANK YOU to Arcata’s Creamery District property owners and to Arcata’s Outdoor Events Grant (partnership between City of Arcata and Playhouse Arts) for hosting us this wild year. We are excited to design an event that’s resilient, flexible, and able to serve this event re-emerging after such a long time!

Oyster Festival is zero waste with an Eco-Positive 2022 goal, meaning every shell will be composted (or happily accepted by a local business), every cup will be reusable, and there will be very little to take to the dump because vendors will be only supplying compostables. Volunteers will be standing by to ensure trash sorting. Big thanks to Mother Earth Engineering, Full Cycle Compost, Cal Poly Humboldt Dining Services and Redwood Coast Montessori for helping make this happen. When you see our friendly Green Team give them a thumbs up… we are making a difference together!

Oyster Festival has traditionally been the largest one-day event in Humboldt County, the Oyster Capital of California, for 32 years! Let your sense of adventure guide you as you explore Arcata’s historic Downtown, art-filled Creamery District, and nearby Cal Poly Humboldt (California’s newly designated 3rd Polytechnic University!). Natural wonders such as the Arcata Marsh, Redwood Community Forest trails, sparkling Pacific Ocean beaches, and kayaking in the Humboldt Bay are easy to access and explore. If you are visiting we know you will come away with a renewed appreciation for our home, marshes, and bay!

Food lovers will be lured by the

salty siren song of oysters and other fare, while quenching their thirst with local beer, hard cider, and wines. Taps open at 10:30 a.m. and close at 4:30 p.m., so plan ahead! Local music will fill the air while dancers frolic in the grass. And don’t miss the quirky, ritual Oyster Calling Contest at noon!

Oyster Festival is the biggest annual fundraiser for Arcata Main Street. The proceeds from this festival are reinvested back into the community. We are proud to offer year-round promotion of downtown Arcata and 40-plus days of free fun events for the community including Arts! Arcata, Sunday Art Markets, Season of Wonder and Light, Halloween, Summer Concert Series, as well as supporting events of other organizations and partners in any way we can. Thank you for supporting this event and Arcata Main Street’s mission to enhance and promote downtown Arcata’s identity, economy, and cultural spirit.

Happy Shucking!

– The 2022 Oyster Festival Team and Arcata Main Street Board of Directors
