WWTP PHASE 1

The groundbreaking ceremony for Phase One of the Arcata Wastewater Treatment Facilities Improvement Project takes place at 5 p.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 18 at the Arcata Wastewater Treatment Plant at the Corporation Yard, 600 South G St. Phase One of the AWTF project is the city’s largest capital improvement project at an anticipated $54 million in construction costs. Construction includes a new ultraviolet (UV) disinfection system to replace the current chlorine-based system and reduce associated disinfection byproducts, a new electrical building, upgrades and retrofits to existing facilities, extensive new sewer piping and electrical duct work, a new pump station and a new sewer outfall location. Construction is expected to take three years.
